Shelf Life
Reagents
Plastic Bottles:
We recommend replacing reagents in plastic bottles 1 year from the date of receipt. Some may remain effective beyond that, but it’s important to test them on a known control substance to confirm they’re still active.
Glass Bottles:
Reagents stored in glass bottles typically last 2 to 4 years, depending on storage conditions. Testing with a control substance is always a good idea before use.
Mandelin Reagent:
This reagent is less stable than others and should be replaced every 6 months, regardless of whether it’s stored in plastic or glass.
When to Replace a Reagent:
-
If you see crystals or powder separating from the liquid, gently shake the bottle to mix.
-
Be careful when shaking glass bottles — while the pipette seals are high quality, they are not completely airtight.
-
If the reagent has completely evaporated or only crystals remain, it should be discarded and replaced.
